After a very short night sleep (time change stinks!) we grabbed our umbrellas and were ready to go. Our first task was to take the "tube" to Victoria Station where we were to meet Mark. That seemed easy....until we got off the Tube and realized it was a VERY busy, crowded "main" station! Thank you Mike for remember the name of the "shop" we were to meet Mark at. We were a "little" worried....wondering "HOW" we would find him....but his "hairline" made that task a little easier .... he appeared and our day began.
We have been riding the "tube" , which is the subway system, but today we moved above ground and took a train out to Windsor. This gave us a chance to see more of London. We passed through Wimbeldon (tennis), saw many golf courses (had to hold Mike back), and continued on to Windsor. What should have been a 30-40 minute ride, turned into an hour plus ride. This was due to "railroad construction".... we have road construction...their transportation system is critical to get people in and out of the city, and therefore on Sunday they were having "railroad construction". Nonetheless .... we made it! And since it was raining all day, sitting in the train wasn't all bad.
Windsor Castle is located south west of London. It had the appearance of a Harry Potter castle; the gothic architecture and massive size made you feel like you were in the movie! The castle is still used by the royalty for entertaining visitors and heads of states. We were able to tour most of the castle that included a gallery of photos from daVinci and other famous painters. WOW. It also had a photo story of the royal family.
The original ornate carvings, fabrics, and furnishings were "brilliant"! That's my new "punch" word..... brilliant....they use that word just as we would say "great"...or "super"...
Following the tour of the castle, we roamed around the village shops and found our way to "The Crooked House of Windsor"...a tea house where we enjoyed an authentic "High Tea". Scones, Spotted Dicks, fruit, tea sandwiches...and of course TEA, or Diet Coke! Mike was a "team player" and joined us for High Tea....

"brilliant" Mike!
"The Crooked House of Windsor" was truely a "crooked house" with the "skinniest stairway I have ever seen. But we made it up for tea and could still shimmy down the staircase AFTER tea! Ha! Supposedly after the house was built, it shifted and settled and developed a very "tipsy" appearance. It continues to amaze me at how old the buildings are and they continue to rennovate and keep the old, quaint villages appearance.
